Whiteheads on chin and forehead: causes and treatment

Whiteheads on the chin and forehead are very common because these areas make more oil and are touched, covered and sweaty more than the rest of the face. Clearing them comes down to keeping pores clear with salicylic acid and fixing a few everyday habits.

Why the forehead?

  • The forehead is part of the oily T-zone.
  • Hair oil, gel and fringes rest on it.
  • Caps, scarves, dupattas and hijabs trap sweat in hot weather.

Why the chin?

  • Resting your chin in your hand.
  • Masks trapping heat and sweat.
  • Hormonal changes, which often show around the chin and jaw.

How to treat them

  1. Wash with a gentle gel cleanser morning and night, and after heavy sweating.
  2. At night, apply the Acne Treatment Serum (2% salicylic acid) to the chin and forehead. Start 2 to 3 nights a week.
  3. Use the Pore Minimizer Serum in the morning to help control oil.
  4. Finish with a light moisturiser, and sunscreen in the day.

Habits that help

  • Keep hair oil off the forehead; wash it out properly.
  • Wash pillowcases and scarves often.
  • Change masks regularly and don't touch your chin.

What to expect

Most people see fewer new whiteheads in 3 to 4 weeks and smoother skin in 6 to 8 weeks. Whiteheads that come with painful, deep bumps along the jaw can be hormonal; a dermatologist or doctor can help.
