Eye bags vs dark circles: what's the difference?

Eye bags are about shape: swelling or fullness under the eyes. Dark circles are about colour: darkness from pigment, thin skin or shadows. They often appear together, because puffy bags cast a shadow that looks like a dark circle, but each needs slightly different care.

Eye bags

  • Swelling or a soft pouch under the eyes
  • Often worse in the morning (fluid) or present all day (structural)
  • Causes: salt, poor sleep, allergies, crying, age, genetics

Dark circles

  • Brown, blue-purple or shadowed colour under the eyes
  • Causes: tiredness, dryness, pigmentation, thin skin, genetics

How to tell them apart

Look in a mirror with light directly in front of you. If the darkness disappears when the light is straight on, it is mainly a shadow from puffiness or hollows. If the colour stays, it is pigment or thin skin. Many people have a bit of both.

One routine for both

  1. Night: a rice-grain amount of Jaago Coffee Dark Circle Serum, tapped from the inner corner outwards. It hydrates the under-eye skin and the tapping helps puffiness settle.
  2. Morning: cold compress if puffy, a tiny amount of Jaago, then Sheer Defence SPF 60 around the eyes.
  3. Habits: 7 to 8 hours sleep, less salt at night, no eye-rubbing.

What to expect

Under-eyes look fresher and less puffy in 2 to 4 weeks. Pigment-type dark circles lighten more slowly and need daily sunscreen. Structural bags and genetic darkness can look better but won't disappear with any serum.

Roman Urdu

Eye bags yaani aankhon ke neeche sujan, aur dark circles yaani kaale halke. Dono aksar saath hote hain. Raat ko Jaago serum tap karein, subah thanda compress aur sunscreen lagayein, aur namak kam khayein.
