What are closed comedones? Causes and treatment

Closed comedones are small, skin-coloured or slightly white bumps caused by pores that are blocked under the surface of the skin. They usually don't hurt, but they make skin look bumpy and feel rough, especially on the forehead, cheeks and chin. The most effective everyday treatment is a 2% salicylic acid serum used regularly for 6 to 8 weeks.
What do closed comedones look like?
- Tiny bumps, often in clusters
- Skin-coloured or slightly white, no dark top
- More easily felt than seen; skin feels like sandpaper
- Common on the forehead, chin and cheeks
What causes them?
Oil and dead skin build up inside the pore, and the opening at the top closes over the plug. Common triggers:
- Oily skin and Pakistan's heat and humidity
- Heavy creams, oils and thick makeup
- Hair oil on the forehead
- Not removing sunscreen and makeup at night
- Hormonal changes
How to treat closed comedones
- Cleanse gently morning and night, for example with the Tea Tree Anti Acne Gel Face Wash.

- Weeks 6 to 8: noticeably smoother texture.
