Why do blackheads keep coming back? 7 common causes
Share
Blackheads come back because the pore keeps making oil. Removing a blackhead empties the pore, but unless you keep the pore clear, oil and dead skin build up again in a few days or weeks. These are the most common reasons they return.
1. Squeezing instead of treating
Squeezing empties the top of the pore but leaves the rest, and can stretch the pore so it fills up faster. Treat the pore with salicylic acid instead.
2. Stopping treatment too early
Blackheads need ongoing care. Once your skin is clear, keep using a 2% salicylic acid serum 2 to 4 nights a week to stop new ones forming.
3. Not removing sunscreen and makeup properly
Wash your face every night, so products don't sit in the pores overnight.
4. Heavy, oily products
Thick creams and oils on the nose and chin can add to the build-up. Choose light, oil-free textures for blackhead areas.
5. Skipping moisturiser
When skin is dehydrated, it often makes more oil. A light moisturiser helps keep oil balanced.
6. Harsh scrubbing
Grainy scrubs and pore strips can irritate skin and make pores look larger. Gentle chemical exfoliation works better.
7. Heat, sweat and touching your face
Pakistan's summers mean more oil and sweat. Wash after heavy sweating and keep your hands and phone screen off your face.
A routine that keeps blackheads away
- Gentle gel face wash, such as the Tea Tree Anti Acne Gel Face Wash.
- Acne Treatment Serum at night on blackhead areas.
- Pore Minimizer Serum to help control oil.
- Light moisturiser, and sunscreen every morning.
